A Happy New Year!

Actually, the first month will be over this week!  Time is flying by, but we did get our first newsletter out. If you didn’t receive it, please make sure you sign up on the OSB home page.  I’m busily working on February, and hope to send it out to even more people, keeping them up to speed on new speakers, our new packages and a featured speaker’s schedule every month…..not to mention links to recent work and new book announcements.  God willing, this year will bring everyone, hosts and speakers alike, more exciting opportunities!

Welcome Peter and Helen Evans!

Please help me welcome Peter and Helen Evans to the OSB! They are authors of the book, “Get Serious! The Church’s Stand on Contemporary Culture.” Consider these questions….. How do we respond to the co-worker who says she’s considering having an abortion? Is it really compassionate to put Great Aunt Sally out of her misery through euthanasia? What about all this “non-judgmental” stuff and how does it fit in a Christian life? Are we just animals? What is the best “welfare” to help the poor? Are the rich really evil? Is war ever the answer?

As you can see, their topics are not for the faint of heart!  Take a look at their speaker page for more information about this delightful couple and their quest for the Truth.

Welcome Father David Bissias!

It’s my pleasure to announce one of our newest speakers, Father David Bissias!  Father David graduated from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Upon ordination, he served as deacon to (then) Bishop Iakovos of Chicago. Since 2004, aside from becoming a parish priest, he also serves as a Special Administrative Assistant to Metropolitan Iakavos of Chicago. Additionally he is a member of the Metropolis Council and the Bishop’s Task Force on AIDS.  Father David’s current book, “The Mystery of Healing: Oil, Anointing, and the Unity of the Local Church” will soon be followed by a new book on “The Question of Gender: Male and Female in Orthodox Tradition”.  Please take a look at Fr. David’s speaker page, and help me welcome him into the OSB!

Welcome Father Joseph Huneycutt!

Wow, another wonderful speaker has been added to the OSB this week!  Welcome Father Joseph Huneycutt!  Fr. Joseph’s writings appear regularly in The WORD magazine and on the Antiochian Orthodox webpage. He hosts a blog called “Orthodixie,” and delivers a weekly Podcast on Ancient Faith Radio by the same name. His book on American converts and their pastoral struggles, One Flew Over the Onion Dome - American Orthodox Converts, Retreads & Reverts, was published in 2006; his latest book, DEFEATING SIN: Overcoming Our Passions and Changing Forever was released in October, 2007 —both published by Regina Orthodox Press.  Fr. Joseph offers an excellent retreat for couples!  Please take a look at his Speaker Page for more information.

Welcome Father John A. Peck!

Anotherwarm welcome to our newest speaker, Father John Peck!  Fr. John is best known for his contributions of “firsts”.  He founded the Incarnation Broadcast Network, the first 24 hour Orthodox Christian internet radio broadcast in the world. He established the first Orthodox seminary website in the world. He also hosted the first Orthodox Media Guild gathering in Chicago in 2004, inviting Orthodox media ministries from around the country to plan how to use their new technologies to reach the unchurched.

What is Fr. John’s current interest? “On the top of my list is what I would call ‘The Orthodox Church of Tomorrow.’ I am very interested in where the Church is going, especially how it should engage and penetrate American culture, what shape it might take when it does, who can be reached by the Gospel of Christ, who might embrace the Orthodox faith.

You can read more about Father John and his topics on his Speaker Page!

Welcome Father Peter-Michael Preble!

A warm welcome to our newest speaker, Fr. Peter-Michael Preble!  Fr. Peter is the host of the weekly syndicated radio program, Shepherd of Souls and Pastor of St. Michael Orthodox Church in Southbridge MA. With a Master’s of Theological Studies from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, and an honorary PhD in Pastoral Psychology from American International University, he brings a wealth of new topics to chose from.  Please take a look at Fr. Peter’s Speaker Page on the site, and see why Fr. Peter is such a great addition to our family at the Orthodox Speakers Bureau.  You can also listen to his podcasts on Ancient Faith Radio before selecting him as a speaker for your next event!

More Speakers Coming!

It’s amazing to me that it will be November 1st this Saturday!  So much has been happening with the OSB.  We have about 8 speakers right now who want to join the bureau and are working on their speaker pages for the site.  September and October have been busy months for those speakers who have asked me to “rattle the bushes” so to speak!  It’s such an honor for them to meet so many people and humbling, I’m sure, that they have been invited.  Please let me know if you think I should be contacting anyone in particular.  Maybe you’ve heard someone speak or have enjoyed their books and/or podcasts on Ancient Faith Radio or OCN…just send me an email!

For now, I’m juggling how to wear a different hat every day.  Accounting, Marketing, Sales, Management, Website Management….and to think I took this all for granted in my former companies.  If any one of you out there are a Quickbooks or Squarespace expert, and don’t mind me picking your brain…give me a call!

I have to say thank you to the Antiochian Archdiocese and Conciliar Press for their support.  They’ve both helped the OSB by providing ideas and ways to grow.  Even the “little” things can make such a difference!
